Energy Sector Rebound & Precious Metals Strength Drive Momentum
Natural resources and energy equities experienced a strong operational rebound in Q3 2026, supported by geopolitical supply discipline, stable global crude oil demand, and robust refining margins. Global crude oil benchmark prices ended the quarter in the $85–$95/bbl range, while regional natural gas selling prices began recovering from prior lows. Concurrently, precious metals equities re-accelerated as gold prices achieved strong quarterly gains, providing a favorable backdrop for mining and upstream energy holdings.
Among NDIV’s top performers in Q3 2026 were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (+32.98%), Northern Oil & Gas, Inc. (+28.56%), Crescent Energy Co. (+25.36%), and AngloGold Ashanti PLC (+17.68%).
Crescent Energy Co. delivered the single largest positive contribution (+1.31%), gaining on robust operational cash flows and successful integration of Permian and Eagle Ford upstream assets. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) followed closely (+1.29% contribution), surging on strong offshore pre-salt production growth, disciplined capital allocation, and substantial dividend distributions. Northern Oil & Gas rebounded sharply (+1.16% contribution) from prior-quarter pressure as Permian Basin production volumes and average selling prices received by regional producers expanded.
Additional positive contributions were generated by energy major BP PLC (+20.51%) (+0.66% contribution) and shipping operator FLEX LNG Ltd. (+12.25%) (+0.62% contribution).
Detractors from performance for the Q3 period included Atlas Energy Solutions Inc. (-17.10%), Enbridge Inc. (-12.86%), and Viper Energy Inc. (-7.99%).
Atlas Energy Solutions was the primary detractor (-1.36% contribution), pulling back following its Q2 surge as investors digested capital expenditures associated with its commercial power infrastructure buildout and proppant logistics integration. Midstream operator Enbridge Inc. detracted (-0.66% contribution) due to rate-sensitivity headwinds and midstream pipeline regulatory friction. Viper Energy Inc. experienced mild profit-taking (-0.40% contribution) following strong prior-quarter gains across its mineral and royalty land holdings.
